Our Story
How We Got to Where We Are
The journey of Salon Scissorworks began in 1991, when I opened the doors in my parents’ living room. At just 23 years old and with six years in the hair industry under my belt, I was ready for a change—along with a few fellow stylists.
On November 13, 1991, I officially launched the salon at our current location on Bonaventure Drive in Calgary. The dream of running my own salon had been a vision of mine since my teenage years, inspired by my entrepreneurial parents who were invaluable resources during the early days of my business. Their support shaped my belief that if you pursue a career you love, it will never feel like work.
Starting with six stylists and three support staff, I am proud to say that one of the original team members is still with me today. Additionally, three former team members have returned at various points in their careers, a testament to the salon's comfortable and caring environment.
As the years passed, our salon has continually evolved, adapting to clients' needs and the latest trends in the hair industry. I’ve always emphasized the importance of ongoing education for our team, as well as refreshing our salon’s décor to create a vibrant and current atmosphere.
During the challenges of the 2020 pandemic, we recognized a growing demand for online retail of professional products, which inspired the launch of our online store, Hair Care Canada.
In 2023, we embraced a new chapter with exciting exterior renovations and a rebranding to Salon Scissorworks. I thrive on freshness and transformation!
Throughout the years, our salon has undergone many changes, but what remains constant is my gratitude for the incredible people I work with and the wonderful community of clients who grace us each year. The synergy within our team and our clients is truly a blessing.
My philosophy has remained steadfast since day one: if we, as a team, consistently exceed our clients’ expectations, provide exceptional customer service, and foster a dynamic, energetic work environment, Salon Scissorworks will continue to thrive.
